During the first few moments of each day, you have a remarkable opportunity to set the tone for your entire day. If you have thoughts that you don't want to get out of bed or dread certain parts of your day, it will drain your energy. Most of us begin each day by getting out of bed and looking at ourselves in the mirror. It's kind of hard to miss the mirror as we head to the bathroom each day. But if you think negative thoughts about your day, then you carry these with you. Let's work on changing these thoughts into more positive ones.
The mirror you look into serves as a mirror for you to see your soul. What are you filling it with? Negative thoughts from when you first wake up? Or positive ones?
To fill it with more positive thoughts, write 1-2 positive statements. Think of thoughts that help you focus on love and compassion. Post these on your mirror. You can change negative thoughts into positive ones when you see them in the morning.
One of the most impactful ways of influencing our thoughts is through images. But most people do not choose images that uplift their souls. If you've ever been into most people's homes, they have pictures of family or passed down wall hangings. Usually, these images do not resonate with their soul.
Go on a shopping spree and choose an image to hang on your wall that you will see as soon as you wake up. Marie Kondo shares how clothing needs to "spark joy" to keep it. Make sure that the painting or image you choose sparks joy. By infusing this feeling into the wall hanging, you will also feel it in the morning when you wake up and see it. Imagine how good that will make you feel.
There's nothing more annoying than waking up to the sound of a lawnmower or chainsaws. You may not be able to stop neighbors from their projects early in the morning. But you can control what you hear when you wake up. Most of our smartphones can set the alarm to a song.
Choose a song that gets you motivated in the morning and makes you feel good.
Here are a few to think about choosing:
- "(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher & Higher" by Jackie Wilson
- Don't Worry Be Happy - Bobby McFerrin
- "Happy" by Pharrell Williams
- "I Gotta Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas
- "Just Fine" by Mary J. Blige
- "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper
- "Can't Stop the Feeling!" by Justin Timberlake
- "Dancing Queen" by ABBA
- "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston
- "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles
Create a playlist of feel-good songs to play in the morning. Singing in the shower also boosts your mood. Consider playing your list while you are taking a shower and sing to it.
All these examples are ways to boost your mood and set the tone for your day. Try thinking about other ways that you can disrupt any negative routines during your day. Set your day up for success. Post notes, hang visuals, and play music to help you overcome negative thoughts. Doing these things will help change them to positive ones.
